I Watussi.

I Watussi  è una canzone del 1963 (qui il testo), scritta da Carlo Rossi e cantata da Edoardo Vianello. Il testo prende spunto dalla peculiarità delle popolazioni africane della regione dei Grandi Laghi, l'altezza, per raccontare ed evocare immagini fantasiose ("alle giraffe guardiamo negli occhi"). Per il suo motivetto orecchiabile e ballabile, divenne presto una delle canzoni più popolari in Italia, ed è anche una canzone che è entrata nel Guiness dei Primati per essere negli ultimi dieci anni fra le 15 canzoni più eseguite in Italia. A maggio 2010 Vianello ha festeggiato la diecimillesima riproduzione della canzone.

I Watussi is a song of 1963 (text here), written by Carlo Rossi and sung by Edoardo Vianello. The text takes its cue from peculiarities of the African Great Lakes region people, the height, to recount and evoke fanciful images ("we look into the giraffes eyes"). For its catchy and danceable tune, it soon became one of the most popular songs in Italy, and is also a song that has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for being the last ten years among the 15 songs performed in Italy. In May 2010 Vianello celebrated the 10.000th playing of the song.

Hully gully. 

E' un ballo di gruppo che si pensa abbia avuto origine negli anni sessanta, ma è anche menzionato una quarantina d'anni prima, come una danza comune tra la gente di colore nella prima parte del ventesimo secolo. 

It's a dance group that is thought to have its origins in the sixties, but it is also mentioned some forty years earlier, as a dance common among black people in the early part of the twentieth century.

Gli autori della canzone lo hanno preso in prestito per inserirlo nel testo e in un contesto diverso, ma la versione italiana è molto diversa. 

The authors of the song have borrowed it to add it in the text and in a different context, but the Italian version is very different.

E' un cantautore romano, classe 1938, considerato esponente di "una scuola romana" di cantautori. Ha anche partecipato a diversi film e le sue canzoni hanno fatto da colonna sonora a diverse produzioni cinematografiche. E' uno dei cantautori italiani più conosciuti all'estero.

He's a singer, born in Rome in 1938, considered to be representative of a "Roman school" of singer-songwriters. He also participated in several films and his songs have been the soundtrack of several film productions. He's one of the most popular Italian singers abroad.

Tutsi, Abatutsi.

I Tutsi (Abatutsi in kirundi e in kyniarwanda, erronamente noti come Vatussi o Watussi) sono una delle tre classi sociali delle nazioni di Ruanda e Burundi, nella regione africana dei Grandi Laghi. I Tutsi sono di statura alta, e questo può essere attribuito a fattori genetici e nutrizionali. Differenze fisiche esistono quasi altrettanto all'interno del gruppo Twa che tra Tutsi e Hutu; anche se alcuni Tutsi sono molto più alti e hanno nasi più affilati che gli Hutu in genere, il 40% dei Tutsi non è distinguibile da un Hutu medio. Queste popolazioni sono inoltre tristemente note per i conflitti in Ruanda e i genocidi etnici dei quali, purtroppo, ne sono le vittime.

The Tutsi (Abatutsi in Kirundi and Kinyarwanda, mistakenly known as Watusi or Watussi) are one of the three social classes of the nations of Rwanda and Burundi, the African Great Lakes. The Tutsi are of high stature, and this can be attributed to genetic and nutritional factors. Physical differences are almost equally within the Twa group between Tutsi and Hutu; although some Tutsi are much higher and have sharper noses that Hutus in general, 40% of the Tutsi is not distinguishable from a Hutu average. These populations are also notorious for conflicts in Rwanda and the ethnic cleansing of which, unfortunately, are its victims.
